Well it's another dreary, drizzly day in the midwest. Only a duck can like a day like today, and methinks even they have had enough. Looks like the road I take to work will flood back over since we have rain in the forcast for the next several days. I swear I'm taking my meds, but seriously, such a blah day just sucks the life out of you! I'm at work and need desperately to finish the newsletter so we can proofread it and then print and fold tomorrow . . . . . . . . but I'm sitting here being distracted and unfocussed.
I feel better for having said it. Maybe now I can concentrate and get something done. I'll try closing the curtains, that might help too ;)

Have you ever wondered . . . . .
. . . . about what would happen if you tried to drink from the soft drink fountain as it was filling your cup . . . . . .yes, from that stream of Diet Coke pouring out of the spicket??? Well, as a service to mankind, I set out to find the answer ;) And I have to say, don't try this on your own! I put my straw right into that stream of Diet Coke and it turns out, mostly you just suck air into your mouth, not pop. Not sure why, I'll leave that to a "real" scientist, but for now, just know that it's not worth it (and people might look at you funny when you try it too!!)
Spring break continues. My boss asked me if I wanted to go home early today (we're supposed to be off tomorrow, but we have stuff to do, so no paid holiday for us, he thought we could switch it to today). Let's see, go home early and hang out with the kids who have already called me twice before 10 AM to mediate disagreements???? Um, NO! I'll stay here and play on the internet if I can't find any real work to keep me busy! Anything but go home!!!!
I do have a project I want to work on when I get home - two projects really. The house is all tidy (those who know me well should sit after that startling news!) and there is only one spot that is in dire need of attention. The top of the stairs, outside Marci's room seems to have collected a lot of crap. There are a couple of randome things waiting to go into the attic (the access is in her room) and piles of toys that need sorted through (are these Marci's or Ellen's? Who's room do they belong in??) and it looked like some laundry that might have been on it's way to the washer but got stalled there in the hallway. Once that area is cleaned up and vacuumed -- my house is clean (except for the kids' rooms, but I can shut their doors!) All the areas that are "my" responsibility as the homemaker are CLEAN & TIDY!! And further more, the van is clean too! Woooo & Hooooo!!!!!! You'd really have to know me to get what a big deal this is ;)
Uh-Oh, all this thinking about home has reminded me that I forgot to put dinner in the crockpot for tonight, bummer! Time to come up with a B Plan!! Off I go to search for a great recipe, ta-ta for now :)

it's spring break!
not that we're going anywhere, never do. But the kids love having a week off. Of course, Max has a project for TV class he needs to be working on. I pestered him about it Saturday and got wailings of "but it's SPRING BREAK! When is a kid supposed to relax?????" Mind you, he spit it out with a straight face too ;0)
Sunday was the big Pancake Breakfast at church. It went very well, and we even got out 45 minutes earlier than last year. Best of all, I got to take home some scrambled eggs -- JB Martin makes the yummiest eggs! I wish he still had his resteraunt, *sigh*
Let's see, yesterday was exciting -- it was errand day and so we went to two pool stores to do some research about getting a real above ground pool. We had the blowup one two years ago (not compatable with cats! They tend to poke holes in the ring of air around the top because they think it's nifty to walk along that ring of air. . . . .yeah, the one that keeps the pool from collapsing!) and then a sturdier, put-together frame one last year. We'd put last year's back up, but, um, well . . . . . . . . some very serious wind came along before we took it down, but after we drained the water, and literally folded the darn thing in half!! We have to order several new parts to replace the ones that are ruined. We'll take that as a sign from above that it's time to move on to a real pool. Most of those who know us, know that we do not have air conditioning -- not in the house, not in the car, and even at my office it only half works! So a pool is our AC. See, that helps rationalize the expense! We're thinking a 24 foot round, partially inground, but technically above ground pool. I'm really excited!!

see, I'm not a morning person
so last night I couldn't fall asleep. So for hours my mind is wandering (that is a dangerous thing folks!) I was thinking about a funeral I went to last week. At the end the Priest says a prayer, something like "May his soul and the soul of all the faithful departed rest in peace." and the congregation responds "And let perpetual light shine upon them."
Really, PERPETUAL light??? That sounds a lot like morning to me, like snuggling in the blankets, somebody rips open the curtains kind of morning! And I am not a morning person. As a matter of fact, I once said that if I don't go to heaven, I'm surely going somewhere where it is morning and summer all the time! So what can I do to keep this perpetual light thingy from spoiling my heaven? (well, yeah, I could just be really bad and not go there, but um, then we're back to morning and summer all the time - ugh!) So, I ask my dear seester to be sure to outlive me, and then at my funeral after everyone says "and let perpetual light shine upon her" I've instructed her to say, "but be sure to give her some snuggly blankies to burrow in and hide her eyes!" There, problem solved.
Next up, I will tackle world peace ;)

Oh we've been sick!
My gosh, I feel like I've lost weeks out of my life! The kids and DH were sick, consecutively, not concurrently. Which I guess is good, because all at once would have killed me, LOL! One week, Ellen and Marci only managed to be at school a total of 3 out of 10 days between them! Tim started it with a chest cold, then Ellen, then Marci, and finally Max. I missed it completely, which acutally seems unfair. I lost the sleep taking care of them, but never got a few days in bed myself. Oh well, maybe next time.
I was reminded of an incident with Max that has to be shared. He can not cultivate the habit of making his bed. I've tried everything to encourage him. Finally I said, "I'm going to check your room each morning and if you don't make your bed, I will take away one blanket." We live in a drafty old farmhouse - he has five blankets, plus his sheets on his bed at any one time in the winter. His response: "But what happens when I don't have anything to cover up with???"
Not, "Gee, I better remember to make my bed" NOPE, that thought apparently never even entered his mind! Boys, I'm learning are just made differently ;)
